Informações gerais:

It is considered one of the largest snakes in the world and has even starred in Hollywood movies. Anaconda or Sucuri Verde is an animal that uses boats when it feels threatened. It is an opportunistic predator, that is, it approaches the prey very slowly or surprises them by ambushing it with a well-aimed boat. After eating, it can spend weeks digesting and therefore it needs to stay in warmer places, being seen frequently on river banks.

In a natural environment it feeds on aquatic and terrestrial vertebrates, such as birds, fish, capybaras, deer and alligators. While at the São Paulo Aquarium it consumes rabbits, ducks and geese.

Tropical plains of South America, being frequent in the Amazon Basin.

Conservação:

The suppression of habitat and high consumption of natural resources compromises the distribution of these animals, some of which are already found in populated areas and prey on domestic animals such as dogs and calves in rural areas.

Habitat:

This species is a semi-aquatic snake and lives associated with water bodies with little movement.

Reprodução:

The sexual maturity of these individuals occurs at approximately 4 years of age. Mating occurs annually in the dry season, the gestation lasts about 7 months, and can generate 20 to 40 pups per litter. The puppies are born fully developed and are independent. The reproduction of this species is of the polyandric type, that is, the female copulates with several males in the same reproductive season.
